Hendrikson DGE offers Life Cycle Assessments (LCA) and Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) service. With the help of EPD and LCA, the company gets reliable information about the environmental impact of its product throughout its life cycle. EPD is essentially LCA, which follows the rules of a specific standard, and the reliability of the data is ensured by independent confirmation (verification) by a third party.

After the EPD is verified, it will be published on the online platform. The published EPD report does not contain sensitive information about the company (e.g., about production or supply chain) but provides information about the product’s environmental footprint.

When preparing the EPD and LCA, we evaluate the environmental impacts throughout the product’s life cycle. At the same time, the resulting greenhouse gas emission is also based on which it is possible to plan further steps to reduce your carbon footprint in cooperation with the company. Based on the needs of the building materials market, we specialize mainly in building materials EPDs. We use SimaPro software and the Ecoinvent database.

The service is topical, as buildings’ life cycle assessment (LCA) and the preparation of environmental declarations (EPD) for building materials are already required in several European countries’ construction sectors. EPD is already a requirement in Sweden, Norway, France, the Netherlands, and Belgium, and a similar regulation will enter into force in a few years in Finland, Denmark, and elsewhere. In Estonia, discussions are underway on how to implement a similar regulation.

The Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) adds value to your product in many aspects:

  • A certified product gives a market advantage both in the eyes of the end consumer and in various procurements (including environmentally friendly public procurements, etc.).
  • You get reliable environmental data about your product and identify production bottlenecks.
  • You will find out the product’s environmental impact, including greenhouse gas emissions.
  • By drawing up an EPD/LCA, you can consciously start reducing the CO2 footprint of your company and products.
  • The numerical results allow similar products to be compared using a functional unit (e.g., m2, m3, t).
